The world of Juxt Architects
We believe thoughtfully designed spaces do more than look beautiful — they actively enhance well-being. Architecture that heals, supports life, and connects people to a place that helps them fulfil their purpose.
Studio philosophy
Every project begins with the same question: what does this specific site, this specific brief, and this specific person actually need?
"Good design heals, supports life, and connects people to a place that helps them fulfil their purpose."
At Juxt Architects, we don't impose a style. We design from the friction between site, brief, regulatory constraints and ambition. Every design decision is earned — not defaulted to. The name Juxt is shorthand for juxtaposition — the creative tension between opposites that produces architecture with genuine character.
We understand buildings from both sides: design intent and construction reality. That dual understanding — rare in a solo practice — produces better design decisions, more honest cost conversations, and better outcomes for clients.
Context driven design means the answer to every architectural question begins with the site. What is the orientation? What is the character of the street? What does the brief actually require versus what has been assumed? What will this place feel like to live in — not just to photograph?
We believe thoughtfully designed spaces do more than look beautiful — they actively enhance well-being. By carefully balancing light, materials, colours, patterns, textures, and the calming influence of biophilic elements, we create environments that feel intuitive, restorative, and alive.
These spaces are crafted not just to be seen, but to be experienced — supporting, nourishing, and elevating the everyday lives of those who inhabit them. Architecture that responds to its context rather than imposing upon it.
The Juxt approach
Every element has a reason to exist. When thoughtfully composed, those elements come together to create spaces that feel effortless, enduring, and meaningful. Good architecture is not about excess — it is about intention.
Design principles
Context first
Every project begins with a deep reading of the site — its orientation, character, overlays, neighbours and history. The design responds to what is already there before it adds anything new.
Brief before form
We challenge the brief before we design to it. What does this household actually need? What has been assumed versus what is genuinely required? The best design comes from an honest brief.
Restraint over excess
Every element must earn its place. We resist the impulse to add — to complexity, to cost, to visual noise. The most resolved architecture is almost always the most disciplined.
Light as material
Natural light is the most important material in any building. We design for how spaces will feel at 7am and 4pm, in summer and winter — not just how they photograph.
Biophilic integration
Connection to nature — through light, ventilation, materials, planting and the experience of the garden from inside — is not a luxury. It is a fundamental condition of well-being.
Integrity through completion
Design intent must survive construction. We stay engaged through documentation, approval and construction observation to ensure what was designed is what gets built.
Principal architect
"Architecture should not only respond to its surroundings — it should elevate them."
Gregory Chin is a registered architect with over 30 years of practice across Adelaide, Singapore and Cambodia. He has contributed to a diverse range of projects — from Adelaide heritage homes and residential subdivisions to a $200M competition entry for the redevelopment of Downtown Marina Bay in Singapore.
Gregory approaches design as a process of thoughtful juxtaposition — balancing form and function, innovation and restraint, the built environment and the human experience it serves. His work is characterised by clean lines, purposeful materiality and an emphasis on spatial clarity.
Outside of practice, Gregory is passionate about all things creative — drawing, painting, dancing and cooking. These creative disciplines directly inform his architectural thinking and his understanding of how people inhabit and experience space.
